Diablo 4 made more than $666 million in five days, Blizzard claims

Diablo 4 passed $666 million in sales in its first five days, Blizzard has claimed.

The conveniently Satanic-themed milestone makes the game Blizzard’s fastest-selling title ever, according to the studio.

The “fastest-selling” claim, Blizzard explains, is “based on both units and dollars sold-through on all platforms through the first five days after launch (through June 10)”.

Blizzard also provided player statistics for the game’s first week, including the following:

• 276 billion monsters have been killed
• Players have died 317 million times
• 276 million hours have been played since early access
• More than 166 million player parties have been created
• The Butcher has caused 5.8 million deaths
• 430,000 players have died in PvP battle

Expert players have been racing to be among the first 1000 to reach experience level 100 on the game’s Hardcore difficulty, in which any time a player dies their character is perma-killed and they have to start again from level 1.

The first 1000 players to accomplish this will have their names etched onto a statue of the game’s antagonist, Lilith.

Twitch streamer Souaïb ‘cArn’ Hanaf was the first confirmed player to reach level 100, but after 82 hours of play the game then disconnected from the server, killing his character. His accomplishment will still be recorded on the statue, however.

VGC’s 5-star Diablo 4 review said the game sees Blizzard back on top form.

“Diablo 4’s always-online requirement is a shame, and a few of the classes are somewhat slow to kick into high gear,” we wrote.

“But we’re only able to muster minor complaints for what is easily a game-of-the-year frontrunner, and Blizzard’s best game since Diablo 3.”
